چکیده

The frequent use of systemic insecticides to manage insect pests leads to a destabilisation of ecosystem and enhanced resistance to insecticides and pests suggesting a clear need for alternatives. In addition, increasing documentation of negative environmental and health impact of synthetic insecticides and increasingly stringent environmental regulation of pesticides have resulted in renewed interest in the development and use of bio insect management products for controlling mosquitoes and pest. The present study focuses on larvicidal activity of methanol, acetone and benzene extract of seaweeds (Ulva fasciata and Grateloupia lithophila) against Culex larva. Of the two algae screened G. lithophila was found to effective against the larva Culex in all the 3 extracts. There is no previous report on the mosquito larvicidal activity of U.fasciata and G. lithophila from the Kovalam coast of Tamil Nadu, India.

Larvicidal potential of Cyathea species against Culex quinquefasciatus

Resistance to insecticides has persuaded researchers to find new methods to control Culex quinquefasciatus proliferation. Plants may be a source of alternative agents for mosquito control due to ever-growing insecticide resistance in mosquito vectors and environmental imbalance caused by synthetic insecticides. The present study was intended to study the larvicidal activity of selected Cyathea ...

Mosquito larvicidal activity of aqueous extracts of long pepper (Piper retrofractum vahl) from Thailand.

Aqueous extracts of nine medicinal plants were bioassayed against larvae of Culex quinquefasciatus Say and Aedes aegypt (L.). Among these plants, the long pepper, Piper retrofractum Vahl (Piperaceae), showed the highest level of activity against mosquito larvae. To gain more information on larvicidal activity of P. retrofractum, fresh fruits of this plant were extracted in water and the extract...

Screening for larvicidal activity in some Thai plants against four mosquito vector species.

Ninety-six ethanolic extracts from various parts of 84 Thai plant species were tested for their larvicidal activity against Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. Extracts from Rhinacanthus nasutus, Derris elliptica, Trigonostemon reidioides, Homalomena aromatica, Stemona tuberosa and Acorus calamus possessed high larvicidal activity, with LC50 values between 16.0 and 48.2 mg/l. Petroleum ether (PE) and met...
